VI. Inventory
Efrim tracks down the nearest priest, who happens to be the priest of
Chronos, and asks him to commune and determine whether the remains of any
of the fallen scouts can still be found. The answer returned from Chronos
(and through his priest) is “no.”
To prove that the scouts did not die for naught, however, the Lord
Protector of Tae Ullari takes inventory on the loot brought back by
them. The results are as follows:
-30 non-magical tomes on assorted topics, including “Medium-Sized Animals
of the Galadorn Subcontinent”, “On Tradition”, and a book methods for
inserting false teeth of various kinds and materials into the jaw.
-7 magical tomes:
3 in the area of micro-organic life
2 in the area of the element of fire
1 in the area of mind (the “mental” area)
1 in the area of extra-planar communication
-15 scrolls:

caecilian portal (works like a caecilian placemat)
map: of a ruined castle. It is difficult to say where this castle is,
although the map entitles it as “the Home of the Heart.” The map
specifies the exact location of a talking dagger somewhere within
those ruins.
map: of some foothills. It is difficult to say where these foothills
are located, except that some famous (and huge) battlefield sits
in the plains just to the west of them. The map purports to give
the exact location of the Axe of Cathandaresh, somewhere in those
foothills.
Those with artifact lore know the Axe of Cathandaresh as unique among
artifacts because, unlike so many of the others mentioned in mortal texts
and myth, this one was not originally created for mortals. It was
supposedly carried by the legendary god Cathandaresh himself (Sphere of
Matter, long dead) and was his personal weapon of choice.
REACTION:
streets just outside the walled estate are filled with skeletons running
on errands — some with weapons and goods, most with messages. Lackshmi
notes that the estate of Belcadiz was originally on her list of “good
places to sack” altough it was so noted because no one here has yet
disturbed the traps set up to protect it. So noted, everyone proceeds to
work through the various buildings of the estate one-by-one, disarming
traps and sticking together so that if anyone dies he/she will not be left
alone. No one dies, many traps are triggered, and the six return to
Catalon with the following goods:-staff +2
-dagger +1
-an expensive carpet rendition of some palace on Yaneh (9,500 gp)
-an espensive vase (340 gp)
-lots of jewelry (for a grand total of 230,830 gp)
-a magical minotaur statuette that plays music when its head is turned
right and shuts off when its head is turned left (1000 gp?)
-six potions of bug repellant (good against creeping doom)
-a staff of dispelling (11 charges) (one of the only known things that can
de-intelligize an intelligent sword)
-a chair of flying (golden, inlaid gems on the upper posts, leather
padding and padded armrests) -360′ per round.
-two eggs of wonder
-an ointment of tanning (blue color, effect lasts 1d4 months, 14 uses
remaining)
-two manscopion “dreamspeech” potions
-wormstaff (staff turns into purple worm on command, 1 charge)
-wand of fear (9 charges)
-crystal ballRemember that crystal balls and wands can only be used by those capable of
casting vain magics, and that any magical staff (not including the
weapon-version) can only be used by those capable of casting clerical
magics (including druids, fanaere, etc).
III. Lackshmi Gives Al a Gift from the Baron
Knowing that Al stands in need of a little travelling, Lackshmi
spends a day doing something that has not yet been done (although it is
long overdo) — rummaging through the Baron’s old room. She finds all
kinds of useful things, including some scrolls of higher level
spells. Although she finds no ring of transportation, she gives the
scrolls over to Al, and they include:
-transportation, cloudkill, disintigrate, statue and summon
object.
IX. Catalon Receives Tribute
An unapproved man arrives at one of Catalon’s teleport pads. The
guards immediately subject him to questioning and a mage supervisor
arrives to check him for evil or danger. He detects neither.
After some negotiation the man is brought (under guard) to see the
second-circler Mesthrin. The man is tall, bearded, and wears a helmet,
plate armor on his torso, knees and shins, but thick clothing everywhere
else. He carries three things with him: two scrolls and a small green
sphere with the exterior texture of eggshell. The sphere and one scroll
detect magic.
Mesthrin then shows her the one magical scroll and the one green ball. A
quick investigation shows that the scroll contains a new fourth-level
magic-user spell called “Sorgora’s Starry Eyes.” Since none of the
Hillland leaders are vain magic users they cannot say what it does for
certain, but the envoy reports that it is a spell famous for aiding in
seduction. And as for the green ball: well, the envoy claims that it is
a magic-item with the onetime power of creating a 400 square foot area of
extremely fertile soil, capable of supporting the lushest crops or the
tallest trees no matter what the climate or environment.
