Skyhook Ballistae
|
| History/Mythology: |
| |
For the past several centuries, on the Plane of the Azure Sky, an order of archons has been tasked with guarding two giant, magical lamps used to light the plane, protecting them against an ancient and exalted creature known as a vssgon, which feasts on veins of emerald in a nearby mountain. To aid them in their defense, unnamed immortal patrons gave them three ballistae, which were designed to exploit the weaknesses of the vssgon and protect their users from the horror and despair it inflicts on those who look upon it. Each ballista requires a crew of four, but it is said that only the artillerist takes on the burdens of artifact ownership. To man these ballistas, the archons rely on a brigade of sollux and an elite group of human and demi-human volunteers. |
