Thing Which Lives in the Lake
Al asks the tome whore to lore his chunk of TWLL flesh and he learns the following
relevant information:-the original was at 60 Hit Dice.
-the original had 372 hp
-TWLL?s armor class is -2
-TWLL?s movement rate (in etherial water) is Œ360. In material water it is 240?.
-TWLL can only survive for about 12 hours in material water.
-TWLL gets one attack per round — a bite. Each bite does 5d20 hp damage. If it hits its
opponent on a roll of ten better than is required it successfully traps the victim in its teeth,
effectively preventing its victim from taking any actions that require arm or leg movement
and doing an automatic 5d20 points of chewing damage each round thereafter. TWLL will
only swallow its victims once they are dead.

A cloned version of the etherial based whale-like creature that ate Efrim McGregor while in Pilgrim’s Graveyard. Currently lives in a pool in Al’s basement, with an underground channel connecting to the river. The TWLL is sometimes used for special assignments involving water-based adventure. The TWLL was brought to Cluster with the party and guarded the Gate node during the adventure, eating many sharks and weresharks.
At 90% the size of the original creature, TWLL2 has approximately 54 hitdice (334 HP), and specializes in swallowing creatures whole.
- a) TWLL is “dual planar.” That is, it exists simultaneously on both the material and the ethereal plane, much like most undead creatures. On the etherial plane it appears as a living, flesh-and-blood fish (with lots of eyes, etc.). On the material plane it just appears as a whispy thing–a sort of underwater cloud in roughly in the shape of a huge fish.
- b) However, TWLL has the following very unusual dietary restriction: it must eat on the ethereal plane. It can’t eat creatures living on the material plane. But, nevertheless, it must eat “material” creatures. Long story short: if you want to feed TWLL, you need to bring food from the material plane to the ethereal one. This, by the way, is exactly what it was doing in the lake beneath the Gravelands, where material creatures were forced to enter the ethereal.
- c) TWLL can be transported to the material plane with the aid of a “travel” spell. However, it can only survive on the material plane for about three hours. After two hours it becomes very weak.
