We will put this up as a spoo document so comments can be added. Notice I didn’t get to the second part of events that we covered on Saturday night.

July 16, 2010

We leave Koreyeikest after 6 months, and a little compulsive shopping. I think this is when Alestria got the ring of spell storing, which included 2 ninth level spells, an 8th level spell, and a few others.

In a return trip a little later, Efrim and Al meet with a schmuck who was selling a bacca plate. They buy it, but also arrange a meeting with his boss. The boss is a Hephestian (Krashmon), a giant basically made out of metal. With some bargaining, they convince him to tell what might be the true story of where it came from, and he gives them the planar coordinates: 271, planer NW, planer W, Planer N, to a strange place with rolling hills and lots of magma.

During one of these visits to Koyerekist, the party met with Diomedes, Uesubius and Julia Hala. I thenk it was in response to an Owl Session question about raising stats: have the proper base and a good trainer. Diomedes and Julia seem to be kicking 19+ stats, in CHR and maybe DEX. Two stats we are looking to increase. I asked Diomedes if he’d be willing to train us in Quick draw and reflexes but he claimed to be a horrible teacher, I counter with Who were your trainers? he doesnt give an answer, I didnt think. After talking Julia, Efrim tries and show off his dedication to self improvement, to which Julia seems intrigued, What are you up to friend Efrim? She seems to be on the verge of ‘trusting’ me, and could use some honesty from old Efrim, but is that just some ploy? Would being honest about Immortal Quest or stat increasing help our cause or just bring unwanted attention from her parents? That can’t be known until it’s too late, no take backs. [-from Clay, 07/21/2010]

On the Prime, everyone tries to fit back in to “normal” life, and the party decides to hold a session with the god of the Owl. Al initiates the session.

OWL SESSION

Q1. How do immortals track locations of immortals?

A1, The most reliable way is by hearing the prayers of their followers, gaining information from the contents of their prayers.

A2, they also use a spell called The Immortal Eye, basically an immortal version of Wizard Eye but with greatly increased ranger, power, etc.

A3, They can always LORE for a location, person or an object and get specific information that way.

Q2. Does possession of items from Ebbensalma (disk of bone hardening, for example) give just cause for the gods to send their exalted servants into a forbidden plane?

A. It depends, it would be something that the Council of Intrusion would vote on.

Q3. Who is on the Council of Intrusion?

A. A god from each sphere

a. Choronus (time)

b. Ixion (energy)

c. Nyx (entropy)

d. Numena (thought)

e. Maree (matter)

Q4. What happened to the 27 godlings, did they get retribution from the existing gods at the time?

A. I don’t know that much about the 27. Maybe you know more than I do. But it’s worth noting that most of the current human immortals look at Elstir as a hero, because he ushered in the current age that made it possible for them all to be who they are today (gods). And he had to sacrifice his life in order to do so.

[Did we ask if Elstir became an Immortal and if so who?]

Q5. Is Chrysma still alive?

A. I would love to know the answer to that.

Q6. Do you know the immortal moniker of any of the 27?

A. I know the moniker for Thanos, and I think you do too.

Q7. Any special ways to enhance dexterity and charisma to godly levels?

A. With the proper cognitive powers and strength, no doubt there are ways of improving [those attributes], some of which have yet to be invented. But it’s always a combination of having the proper foundation, and a good trainer…..

Q8. At what point would a mortal become “unmortal” enough to worry about getting attacked by gods or their servants on a forbidden plane?

A. It would be up to the council of Intrusion. The point to get worried is when you show up on a Detect Immortal Magics scan.

Q9. Detect Immortal Magics?

A. Yeah, it’s an immortal level spell (and not just the immortal version of a mortal level spell)

Q10. Any info about Ryllack?

A. I don’t really keep up on him, but just guessing, he probably has the spell Block Vain Magics, which is a special spell for Maree.

Q11. Any info on the Head of Myth?

A. It’s in three parts.

Q12. Any info on the Shard of Sakkard (sic)?

A. When a species is created… humans were created on an outer plane… A god created a special firmament for their homeland, and the shard was severed from that… a powerful mortal later used it to conquer a plane that was under the control of the gods of water, and won it for the gods of air. The owl god gives us the planar coordinates of this plane, in case we are interested in going there, but he doesn’t necessarily think that the Shard is still there. We find out later on that the coordinates lead to a plane 7 deep into the outer planes.

Other business

Some time is spent deliberating over whether or not certain NPCs can be trusted enough to be allowed to use the bone densifier, and if so, how much should they be told? This is greatly relevant to the members of the Wish Club, as attendance in the wish club will be disrupted by using the disc for 6 months straight. On the other hand, being together daily will allow for a certain amount of wishing for the party members to happen nonetheless. Time passes, stats are wished up, and the party members begin using the disc.

Al begins comprehensive research testing potion combinations in the Mirror of Probable Outcomes (whatever that is called). We also tried asked the mirror to tell us what would happen if we created a chestra (sp?) glass lens and put it into the Wonder Lanthorne artifact. The answer was that it would melt everything including: the walls, the artifact, and Efrim. [ens]

Lakshmi begins teaching people what she knows of the language of the gods.

Minotaur Incident and Request for Special Favor in Tae Ullari

As minotaurs and humans have been interacting in Ostbruck, there was bound to be a day of tragedy, and one day a report comes in that a minotaur has killed human. The minotaur envoy appears in Ostbruck at the palace to Baron Al to apologize. Al states that the minotaur must be killed, the envoy states that this has already been done. It’s head is to be delivered to Ostbruck, and the body to be delivered to the village where the human was killed. Al accepts, and shortly after the skull (horns and all!) is delivered.

The next day the envoy reappears and asks for a special audience with ‘your boss.’ Al invites him into the palace as a guest and after a day or so goes to Crownguard to inform Efrim that his presence has been requested. Efrim and Al immediately return to Ostbruck and Efrim makes an overly flashy entrance to wow the envoy…

The Envoy says that they need the services of a powerful wizard… Please open a Gate on a certain day… god Minos (Menod?) is bringing us a gift, a “heavenly bull” for our labyrinth. He describes the creature. Efrim thinks, “oh leveler? Hell yeah I’ll help you bring a leveler here!” The envoy promises the minotaur will be a fierce ally in return. On the given day, Efrim and Al go to the node, decorated in “bull-like” costumes and clothes. Efrim opens a gate to the Astral plane. There are 9 minotaurs on this side, and on a floating wooden platform on the other side, another 9 minotaurs, holding chains, which are attached to an enormous (leveler size) bull, which is fighting and straining, attempting to get away. The bull is halfway through the gate, and one of the minotaurs get’s kicked off the platform, spinning off into the astral.. Efrim and Al look at each other, and EFRIM tells Al “well, go get him!” (which is what Al wanted to do anyway). Al races through the gate, using telekinesis to grab the body of the minotaur, and grabs the loose chain at the same time, and also notices a pair of enormous hairy legs, and is crushed by an overwhelming presence. It starts to bend over, Al stays put, eventually the god touches him, gains +1 to con (giving him a 19), goes home the hero, and gives Efrim yet another thing to bitch about how everyone else always gets the good stuff that he was supposed to have.

The minotaurs are extremely pleased. They suggest that Efrim put a signal at a certain place, and if ever in need, light the signal and the minotaurs will come to his aid.

Mission: Go to the Plane of Cluster, and come home with The Tooth of the Great One

The party prepares for a clandestine invasion of the home of Ryllack, the Devil Swine Priest-King. The city where he resides is on a moon. The moon is home to the Moon dragon. There is a large planet in this plane that is home to the three other mortal reps of the dragon gods. Humanity is scratching out an existence, but has been doing better since the priest-king showed up.

The node to the plane is under water, Al decides to bring TWLL so that the creature can help secure their entrance to the plane. The party creates a Force Field cube around the Gate to contain the water, then enters the breach. TWLL eats two were-sharks after a short chase, Efrim Shapechanged into a Nuklavee kills the third. The party kills many were-creature sentries in a giant lily pad outpost. Al loots a holy symbol for Innis Freeman and wears it for the duration of the trip. They spare one female werebat, Charm her, and use her to guide them to the city. They Rainbow into the mountains, spend a night in a dragon cave, where they find the dragon was home (blue), and after getting breathed on slay the dragon and take it’s treasure. Most notably it had a ring of three wishes, which for some reason Carrock carried for the rest of the trip.

The charmed werebat guide tells us a lot. Ryllack rules a small section of the country called Reclamation. The city is called “Sharksclum” which means “heavenly crossroads.” The party rainbows to a location just outside of the view of the city, Brainkills the werebat but keeps her since she is still charmed. They enter the city pretending to be pilgrims and/or dragon researchers. We act like well-to-do people, but not royalty, and start casing the place trying to come up with a plan.

Ryllack is well known to conduct weekly regular tours of the city, smiling and waving at the fans. (huh?) So we stake it out to see if we can just ambush him on the route and take his stuff. After waiting, we see the tour coming and Truesight everyone.

Entourage:

Batman #1 – 19/12

Batman#2 – 21/20

“Ryllack” level 19

Human 17/10

Human level 23

“guy” – 23 hd

Human 10/10

We quickly conclude that the dude in the tour is not the king but a stunt double, and start looking for other ways to get access to him without having to storm the castle, or at least so that we can attack him when he’s not with this little crew of defenders.

While we are staying at the rich people’s hotel, a city bureaucrat introduces himself to us, and gives us each a gold coin with his face on it – to show off because his face was just put on some money.

There is a coliseum here (and a bunch of towers where Ryllack supposedly goes to talk directly to Maree, innis Freeman, the dragon rulers, and the wererat god Merkitat (each have separate towers), and in the coliseum there is a special box for the king. We look for an upcoming event that he might attend, and base our plan around killing him there.

Hours, days, are spent coming up with a plan to kill or disable him without allowing him to take any actions. Some of our group manage to get themselves invited to box seats just 220 feet away, by buying off the bureaucrat schmo and pretending to be really excited about the event (which was wolves vs. tigers in a gladiator style chessmatch. It was actually pretty cool).

The plan was supposed to be something like this.

1. Determine if it was really the king in the balcony,

2. Magically remove his defenses

3. Stun/Blind/Dance him

4. Kill or kidnap him,

5. Take the artifact and run

The party was sitting separately (not enough seats available in the fancy section) and excused themselves to the bathroom at the agreed upon time to cast prep spells. Al Created hordes of human men to fill up the bathroom and create a long line to give the group some privacy. It was a total sausage fest.

Here is more or less how it went down.

Round one, segment 2

1. Before Efrim even casts Time Stop, he is using Locate Object for Tooth of Great One, and indeed, it is in the area. We spent a long time planning on removing a forcefield from the front of the box, but there wasn’t one, so During Efrim’s timestop he used a Wish to stop him from using Word of Recall. He also created 4 nucklavees and an ogre inside the kings box. Efrim uses Truesight on everyone in the box. “Ryllack this time appears as 33/32 (or something close to that). There is a tall man next to him with 34 HD. A batman, a fop, and 4-6 fighters along the back wall with an average of 12 levels.

2. (segment 1) Next, When Efrim’s timestop ends, Carrock, Disguised Disguised as a little bird sitting over the box seats, cast his dispel magic spell.

Round 2, segment 10

3. Lakshmi casts Timestop, with the intention to Stun/Blind him. Realizing that he has not taken any damage, Lakshmi uses her two rounds to place to DBFs in the box.

4. Carrock casts creeping doom centered on the king (debate about spell turning begins)

5. Al casts an immortal level fireball at… the 34 HD “tall man” (i.e. shape changed ancient dragon)

6. Alestria casts Timestop. I can’t remember what she actually ended up doing. I think she casts Dance on the 34 HD tall man.

7. A werepantheress scales the wall, and flies spinning into the air (yes, the middle of the air) to attack Lakshmi. Did the Mage cast Fly on her?

8. Al Flies from his seat, next to a shocked bureaucrat, at attack the werepanther attacking Lakshmi.

9. Efrim Meteor Swarms the people in the box. [should have FBalled them, killed all my Nuklavees before they could breath!]

In the span of a few seconds, there are multiple creatures appearing in the box to attack the king, which are then destroyed by the multiple explosions (7 in total?) shaking the whole coliseum. Lakshmi is hit four times by the pantheress and is unconscious.

Round 3

Carrock Cure Alls Lakshmi, Alestria uses the ring of stored spells to create a prismatic sphere for Alestria, Al, and Lackshmi, now conscious. Efrim charges into the box to do some king on king battle. The king backs up, heals all damage by stepping on an item, efrim keeps stabbing. Carrock attempts to use the lanthorne for hold monster on the king and the 34 hd tall man (i.e. dragon) , but they make their saves. [Eric says he should’ve just FBalled them, chalk it up to lack of sleep at this point! (Yes, save to suffer nothing isn’t as good as save for half damage. Live and learn. – ens)]

Round 4

High level dudes with swords swarm into the box and stab the hell out of efrim – the king retreats through a secret door, Efrim uses Dimension Door to go 360 up, after giving the swordsmen a cheeky salute. [Worth noting Efrim defeated Ryllak in hand-to-hand combat, of sorts! woot!]

Al casts invisibility

Alestria drops the prismatic sphere

Lacksmi casts Time Stop

-L. casts wish and wishes that his resistance to vain magics is negated for one turn.

– She flies over the heads of the swordsmen and finds the king fleeing down a set of giant-sized stairs, with a 21 level were seal and an 11th level tard. She casts Wall of Stone over their exit at the bottom of the stairs.

-She creates 4 nucklavee and four humans. The four humans guard their backs, the nucklavee prepare to breathe. [would have placing them where they were headed have kept them from attempting to breath on the group, Alestria, Lak and creatures?]

Alestria casts Time stop

-she moves in, and finds L., casts mirror image and prepares to enter combat with the king.

Time resumes, the king finds the way blocked, turns to see Lakshmi, Alestria, and four Nucklavee staring down at them. The king raises his staff-sized tooth. His jaw unhinges as he prepares to breath dragon breath on them. When all of a sudden *POOF* he turns gaseous. All his items clatter to the floor and the players rejoice!! (As we said in the email, this was an artifact side effect.)

The nucklavee breath and destroy the two other creatures at the base. Alestria recovers the tooth, and a nucklavee helps her gather the rest of the items into a sack (minus the armor).

Meanwhile…. Efrim up above sees an ancient red dragon and two other dragons not too far off and heading this way. He Heals himself, and Shapechanges into a huge red dragon. He comes back down, lands on the edge of the coliseum, and breathes on a bunch of baddies.

Al, although invisible, can still be seen by the werepantheress Mystic, and a wizard with a staff of lightening. He is attacked, a lot, and races to get next to Carrock, who is Al’s exit buddy. Carrock had entered the balcony, and on the verge of casting Barrier, decided to allow Al AND the werepatheress into the balcony.

Round 5

Al spins around to face the were pantheress. She attacks him on segment 10, with 20 hitpoints left, Al realizes his next action may be his last. He points a wand of Meteor Swarm at her chest and pulls the trigger. She is killed by the impact (and so are three werebats out in the area). Al’s armor absorbs the fire (but carrock takes damage). Carrock spends some seconds to grab some more loot from the people we have toasted. We see now that the 34 HD “tall man” that we worked so hard to defeat (over 300 hit points?) is now just an empty skin. The dragon* inside of the human skin has disappeared.

*We found out somewhere along the line that the king had an alliance with an ancient amber dragon, whose lair was basically right at the wall of the city. This character fits the bill.

Alestria and lackshmi battle some reinforcements inside in the hallway. But have control, if only for a moment. Lakshmi casts ForceField across the open front of the balcony to prevent any new attacks coming in from the arena (like dragon breath).

The ancient red dragon that had been approaching appears on the edge of the coliseum and crashes through parts of the building, gripping it with its claws, staring at Efrim the dragon, steadying itself, and preparing to attack.

Round 6

Efrim, now facing an ancient red dragon by himself, and being targeted by all of the crossbows in the city (and fired upon), bellows out in Glantrian: TELEPOOOOOORRT!! And is the first to escape to the agreed upon location, a flat stone where we landed with the first rainbow from the node.

Then Alestria and Lakshmi. Lastly, Carrock casts Transport via Plants and safely takes himself and Al to safety, just as the ceilings and walls are disappearing a la disintegration.

The party Rainbows back to the node, where they meet up with TWLL, who reports that the area has just been crawling with creatures, sharks and weresharks, which he happily ate. Some even took two bites before they stopped moving! (Remind me to sift through it’s poo looking for the gems…)

Alestria cast Furtive Gate from a scroll, and the party returned to the Prime, and holed up in Alphiem to recover.

We had another owl party after we got back to the prime to check on conditions in Cluster, mainly to see if there was going to be some retribution coming our way. It appears that the swine king has something of a revolt on his hands. The dragons that he must have worked so hard to charm/negotiate with are no longer leaving his kingdom and the humans on the plane in peace. On one hand that’s bad because the dragons are eating humans like a sack of popcorn, but on the other hand they are Maree worshipping humans so they deserve what they get. Not all of the dragons are turning against him though. The ancient red that confronted Efrim seems to remain his ally, while the Amber dragon (that we believe we “killed” on the balacony) has revolted. All in all, it’s a planet in chaos (at least for the humans and werecreatures).

—————————————————————————————————————–

There were a few flaws in our plan, some due to things that we didn’t anticipate. He had a ring a of spell turning. The effect of the ring sparked an intense discussion. Eventually, it was decided that he could be affected by some of our spells. Also, part of the plan to make him vulnerable involved having Carrock cast Dispel Magic to try to drop any protections he had using the Protection from Vain Magics spell. Unfortunately that didn’t work, Carrock is a couple levels lower than the king.

—————————————————————————————————————–

*Note from Clay: comments seem to be behaving differently. weird. I will add some of the other Shard adventure stuff, and fluff some bits of Efrim’s actions.

The Shard of Sakkard

Once again the party decides to depart the Prime plane and travel to a plane 7 deep in the multiverse! We first spent another 6 months training and doing various things, like learning profs and setting up business opportunities and other correspondence. Iustal is the key to this mission. He has gone 4 planes out and knows of a Diaboli city that we can stay at and prepare for the journey ahead.

Iustal informs us that X1 is the first plane we are headed to and that the Gate Node is under water. The water is slightly poisonous, so Survival is needed to get through unharmed. We use the Force Field Cube around the gate and DDoor into the flooded area and pass through. The water is algae of plant filled with little chomping toothy fish. One of which attaches to Carrocks 9?) leg armor and he swats it off with a 20 STR! We swim to the surface and make for an algae covered platform from which Iustal casts Teleport. Carrock has give him a plant for him to Pass through Plant to. We arrive at another wooded platform and dive down into the water to the ocean floor where Gate is once again cast.

We emerge in what Iustal calls a Dead plane. We are in mountainous terrain and fog hovers below our vantage point and we can see far of field. Iustal Teleports to a great waterfall. We again Pass Through Plants to him (of note he has botched his teleports coming in too high and too low. such an amateur). The gate is inset into a waterfall coming down a huge mountain. The gate is guarded by three creatures two of which are Exalted! We go to the one that looks like a gargoyle with an Elven face. It demands 10K gp from each of us for passage and we give it to him. Efrim tries to make small talk. No Dice. Iustal gives him the eye. The gate opens and we travel down a mile or two of perfectly carved out rock. Eventually we come to a large carvern that is filled with light. there is water pooled here and Iustal warns there are creatures within it and to be cautious!

From there I cant remember, there should’ve been another plane?

We used Travel for the last part getting to the Diaboli City. The city is HUGE and has a small Inter-Planar district for travelers. Justin instilled the idea of the Diaboli being completely alien and disturbing. This is a mutual feeling it turns out. Diaboli are anarchists and have minimal governmental hierarchies and rely on their own moral compasses to keep things going. The City is a mishmash of roads winding around in no particular overarching plan or design. We slowly make our way through the huge city to the Visitors District.

We rent modest rooms, Carrock and Forreststonar stay with Efrim and Lakshami, Iustal and Al stay in another room. Iustal takes us to a message board, he leaves messages from some friends that Al uses his Helm of reading to read. We leave ‘want ads’ for Exalted Creatures Lore (Carrock’s request), Spell Trading/Buying, and the Talking Dagger, Girdle of Giant Str, Dagger of Slicing. Al goes and browses spells and eventually finds one he dubs Mega Missile? Its a modified Magic Missile that does fewer bigger missiles. Better than Magic Missile in mid levels. Should prove useful for Catalon’s students, wand making and war time applications. Carrock gets an Elf that comes by to share his knowledge of Exalted creatures. Most notabley one called a Notion.

The people Iustal was waiting for show up and we get to know a couple Diaboli a bit better using up some charges from the Rod of Communication. There’s a 33rd level Cleric of Yoichig and a 36 level Paladin of the Diaboli Immortal. They want to go with us to the Triumpherant and help overthrow the plane, once again returning it to the Sphere of Water/Air? Efrim asks them about helping him with the Mage’s Guild and maybe acquiring a Lens of Virtue Detection, which Efrim tried out at the Mage’s Guild.
