Ebbensalma Reflections – Back to the Prime

Anil (Author):

Definitely have the spoo-hangover this morning. This is from last night:

—-

Sitting on the airplane home and don’t feel like sphinctering off the spoo yet. So here is the last little dribble of what L wants to do next (both short and long term).

Koryarekist

– In Koryarekist (and once back in Catalon) try finding out as much about the Semu empire as I can while still remaining circumspect and trying to use the minimal possible knowledge from the other side of

the wall. I suspect that we already know much more than most, but it may still help with our understanding. Sounds good. People in Koyrekist seem to know very little about it, which is strange given that knowledge of other planes is so commonplace. It’s said that the Semu rulers were the first to turn Koyarekist into a major, inter-planar meet-up. Apparently there was once a wall around the node which, by legend, was built by the Semuites themselves. A cornerstone proclaimed such. When the wall was torn down (about two centuries ago), the cornerstone was taken to the City Hall. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:33 PM

– Need to start discussion of an attack on Ochalea and Eyenmar with Diomedes and Euvius(?) Eusebius Torion -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:39 PM . I want to know about why Diomedes wants in and want to find out what kind of guy Eusebius is. I’ll joke/needle him a little bit about being a wimp and fleeing and returning when the goose is half-cooked and see what his reaction is.

– I’ll discuss with the party about whether it is a good idea to ask Diomedes about the immortal script. I’m thinking something along the lines of “In my research I’ve recently started to infer that the gods may have a language that is separate from our own and more complicated than mortals can understand, do you know anything about this? Do you know the immortal script? Do you know where I could find some writings in it?” But then again this may be stupid because it’d tip off to Diomedes that we are up to something. Maybe I can just look around his house and see if he has anything written in the immortal tongue.

I think a good way to segue into it would be talk about him as the lover somehow and discuss getting love notes, just get caught up in the logistics of it, Like Oh that’s right, how would that work. Do you just write in any language and they know how to read it or do they have their own tongue? Did you try to impress them by writing in their native language? Like Efrim does with Druida? -Efrim MacGregor 7/16/09 4:45 PM An automatic wisdom check suggests that Efrim might be right: bringing this up out of the blue might be a little suspicious. Better to trick him into bringing it up, and then pursuing it as a curious interlocutor (who wouldn’t be curious about this?). On the other hand, it seems at least possible that you would stumble across the immortal script in other places. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:42 PM

CLAY, cant cut and paste into comments? my thoughts on Koryarekist:

– Didn’t we pay some people to do research for us there once before? Just mundane info gathering?

Can we do that again for Semu info? Yes, there are researchers for hire. I’m not sure they would be very useful to a party like this one, which is already steeped in knowledge and whose members now have minds like steel traps. But at least they could save you a little time as you race back to the Prime to pump iron. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:45 PM

– Bacca Plates, I was, at first, just curious about how much one costs, but then I started to go off on weird physics of magic thinking, like what happens if one of us is turned to stone? Do our Artifacts turn to stone as well? if so, how? How does anyone travel with big artifacts? Tome of Elish, Illmarins Wife? If the Bacca blocks magic, how can one create manacles from it? is it metal? or some other maleable material? Can a Rune be made for it? If so how does that work? It shouldn’t should it? how is it transported if it resists all magic? All of this sounds like much grist for future investigations and research. In the meantime, I can answer your first question already: if you ask around about buying Bacca Plates, you’ll quickly find your way to some of the premier pawn shops, who can make arrangements for you to meet with a Bacca dealer within the space of a month or so. “Expect to pay somewhere between 500,000 and 1.5 million g.p. per plate,” one pawn shop owner tells you. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:47 PM And we just saw a freaking coffin covered in bacca plates and we just freaking left it there!!!! Gotta come back with a thief who is chasing immortality and have him or her steal that freaking coffin. I’ll bet those are 1.5 mil bacca plates, and like 50 of them.- Ray 7/22/09 11:50 p.m.

Back in town:

– Work out a place to create our work-out room and determine the logistics (current leading candidate: in Krownguard tower. An Owl session trying to figure out how the gods spy on us would probably be in order for this. L is in favor of people meeting at overlapping times to continue our magical research and discussions and so someone can lift the weights off her chest when her muscles just hurt too much. Otherwise known as a “spotter.” -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:51 PM Also continue the wish club to get all people up to speed on Str & Con

– Work on the rune for Chustra glass (with Efrim?)

– Consider working Chustra glass into the tower enchantment. I think I’ve already gotten too far on the current item to abandon it (I’ve already had the enchantment put on by the priests of Serram). Right. You already have a goodly number of the enchantments underway, both by the priests of Serram and also a few of your own. However, it might be possible to swap the stone walls of the tower for walls of Chustra glass. I’m not sure that would be worth the while, however. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:52 PM

– Start learning (and teaching) the immortal tongue using the book as our Rosetta stone.

– Contact Isle of Dawn druids and see if they’re happy the way they are or if they want to take Eyenmar out. It’s a safe bet that they want Eyenmar out. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:53 PM Also meet with the 1st circle about attacking Eyenmar. Yes, let’s talk about this. No doubt everyone has his eye on that mound 😉 -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:54 PM

Clay (Author):

Menod and the Minotaurs

– these guys were building an underground maze for a big meeting, right before I left I had met with them, did their Immortal Menod show up and teach them new stuff? They claim that he showed up, and that he did indeed teach them new things. Nothing strikes Efrim as any more innovative than the techniques human beings already use to make utensils, weapons, buckets, etc. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:57 PM

– Did they get their dungeon built? The core structure is built, and about 70% of the minotaurs have dispersed. Of the remaining 30%, about 20% divide their time between foraging, guarding, and raiding nearby villages of lycanthropes (they steadfastly honor their truce with Tae Ullari and will not raid human villages). The final 10% are considered the most skilled and highly-trained dungeon engineers and workers, and they expect to spend several more years working on this structure. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 2:58 PM

– It would be interesting to see if they would let us have the bottom level and put the Bone Disk there, have them guarding it sort of, while we worked out. Now that’s a dungeon! Imagine if the Minotaurs got all crazy buff. Damn!

ANIL

this is a really spooey idea. Super strong minotaur allies! But we have no idea where the minotaurs are coming from, what their purpose is, or if their gods are cool with what we’re up to (probably

a good guess would be that they are not). And we’d have to do some work to keep folk from teleporting in and stealing stuff. Worth pursuing though. I also like the crownguard tower idea (and then Druida would be just down the hall, Efrim would be like Barack Obama).

The 27

– Wouldn’t all of these guys belong to the Sphere of Entropy at least initially? they literally were the rebel shpere. Carrock has the impression that this is indeed the case. But you can lore it or “owl” it, just to be sure. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:01 PM just a point of Immortal lore investigation. If we look at how were the original members of the shpere of Entropy, we should have a good base list of the 27. like If we research Ferria, would we find out she was once in the sphere of entropy when it was still known as the rebel sphere? Good point. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:01 PM

– Debates, these fuckers loved debating and memorialized some of the favorite lines. The Nameless Goddess of the Pheanare loved the debating. Could the debates between her and Thanatos be from their ‘mortal’ years on Ebem Salma? Couldn’t there be record of some of these great debates? I’m surprised we didn’t find more writings in the circle throne debate chamber. anyhows. Two lines of thought: 1- if we throw gender out the window, then shouldn’t the Pheanare Goddess be the Great Orator: Fennys? This seems to make sense but may be too obvious, but perhaps the search for the Goddess isn’t about whats obvious but about recreating an undeniable truth, this truth is perhaps also why Thanatos cant/wont remember who he was, because by remembering that undeniable truth becomes evident again. Sound crazy? (Have we/you discussed this before Eric?) perhaps. 2 – Stick with gender roles. The PhenGoddess is/was a woman in mortality and is/was one of the 27. Lets use

process of elimination:

Ensem= Ferria,

Tuaren= went to Cluster and was the fore bearer of the dead mage we spoke to in EbSalma. Tuarenete daughter of Tauren and was killed by Thanatos.

Crysma = still high on the list of probable Phen Goddess. Situated with Thanos.

Mira (female), older, but facial features resemble Sulata’s

Vir (f), broad-shouldered and strong

Frush (f), youngish with smirk

Dryinu (f), youngish with short hair

Crobyem (f), stern expression, maybe even mean-looking

Chethem (f), late-twenties and sensual

Shydemn (f), mid-twenties and beautiful

Chitherki (f), covering her mouth (one of the artists in Nar’s Tomb?)

Yes, she was one of the artists, and the “guest book” showed that she had visited multiple times over the past few thousand years -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:03 PM

Ensu (f), in awe

Yterat (f), watching calmly

13 total, 2 down for sure, 11 remaining!!!

* So there’s the list if you want to stay gender true. A good note to make is Tauren’s ‘daughter’ Taurenete, her name is a derivation of the Alphatian language that denotes lineage correct? That’s correct. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:06 PM Can we run Thanos through our language experts and see if they can generate an iteration of it that makes Thanatos? This sounds like a job for the Catalonian nagpa. Nagpa are collectors of arcane knowledge in general, but above all they are language geeks. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:07 PM how about the other names of the 27? How about in the God Speak Language? What tweaks of Thanos can we do to it that might make Thanatos? Maybe its just like Dr. Thanos in God Speak? yeah? Okay, that one would have to be one of your own projects, since Godspeak is too difficult for even your most gifted nagpa. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:08 PM Thats my suggestion for one line of research.

* Also, Like Taurenete, the other 27 ‘spread out’ went to other planes and presumably started new human colonies or freed them from the Giants. Also a really good avenue for research to eliminate names from the list. We could also just focus on Crysma. Whats the Phaenare Creation Myth Eric or Justin? We know it don’t we? Elves were modified or something? Eric can fill you in here, as the creation myth is a work in progress and not entirely settled. Generally speaking, the fanaere believe themselves to be elves who were disillusioned with human and demi-human ways after the fall of Blackmoore, and ended up as followers of the nameless goddess, who led them to the isles of the Faedorne on the plane of Reason. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:09 PM Yes, they were “called” by a voice, which lead them through several points of interest as elves. The Faedorne were the last stop, where they were re-created as Faenare. It seems likely, now, that the creature experimentation of Ebbensalma probably connects directly to this process. One of the 27 using their knowledge of race creation/modification. Interestingly, the faenare goddess could in fact be human. -Ensergeant 7/26/09 3:29 PM

* Another idea is from the Lists of household Inventories we found. Wouldnt the Phen Goddess have tons of singers and music or falconers or weird shit at her house? That might help us put proof on Crysma or remove other females from the list. We should have rubbings or recordings of all these, or just rely on our MASSIVE intellects. Four of the inventories show elves as being among the regular staff: Crysma, Elstir, Yterat and Frush. Among these, only Crysma and Elstir have more than one elf on staff (Crysma has three and Elstir has four). -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:11 PM

Immortal Lore: Does anyone have this style Prof?

Immortal Lore? Can I do this in general or does it have to be on one Immortal at a time? (I would like to do traditional book style research on the Sphere of Entropy, especially its founding Immortals. Could I specialize my Prof in the Sphere of Entropy? History of the Shpere or something? Just trying to put together a better list of possible who’s who of the 27 Godlings. History of the Age of Giants may help too?) I’ll research a bit about the Minotaur god Menod while I’m at it. There’s a god-expert on the Isle of Catalon, who gets a regular salary. I’m not sure if any party members have picked up this proficiency. For ancient, ancient history you might go to the Archives of Drake (the capital city of the Lizardman empire). They worship Ka and thus like to keep records of things. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:15 PM

Orien

– how does the Communication Spell work? Its just one way per casting? or can the other people automatically talk back? If you can talk back without casting a spell, I think its safe to assume that had we not been hurrying in real time to get outta Semu we would have set up something with one of Oriens confidants about being contacted and doing ‘work’ on his side of the wall for us. Does that make sense? He could collect maps, books, bowls, research item or place locations. Like we never went to a temple of Crysma or her memorial site, if she has one, or anything like that. I would be willing to leave the money(400K) Runed into bar form, from the sell of the GEM statues with this person to bank roll them in these pursuits. What do you guys think? It seems very likely we will come back here at some point right? Why not have someone working on stuff for us while we get buff?

Is Orien getting buff with us? Is he going to need wishes? -Efrim MacGregor 7/21/09 12:02 PMIt’s really up to you guys. He’d be happy to get buff, of course. Then again, he’ll have to devote a lot of his time to learning magic over the next few years. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 6/13/10 8:00 PM

ANIL

This is a great idea! But I think that 400K is a great excess of money for this service and I think its a bad idea to leave someone with this much. Its like winning the lottery, that much money can fuck people up (or get em killed). I’m sure a few thousand gold would buy us the research services of someone up to the task.

I believe this would be Oriens call, they are his colleagues after all, yeah? Maybe we split the money between different contacts. One does one kind of research, another amasses maps, another finds knowledge bowls that are unique, another tracks down Artifacts for me. -Efrim MacGregor 7/19/09 10:27 PM The Communication Spell runs two ways, and only one of the two parties needs to cast the spell. So yes, you could establish some informants/researchers there. Orien is happy to pick a couple of trusted mapmaking assistants, one of whom has also served as a research assistant in other capacities. Conveying maps via the communication spell will be very difficult, unless you spend countless hours describing each map square-inch by square-inch. Orien can’t be sure that these people will remain loyal and diligent for decades to come, especially if they are paid up-front and have no incentive to continue to please their employers. However, he does think that these fellows will be reliable for a few years at minimum. -jtiwald@yahoo.com 7/22/09 3:18 PM

Immortal Reptile Book

– On further reflection, there is no other reason than a Rosetta Stone that this book be left behind. It has very little value, especially if Ensem is Ferria, its a random ‘worthless’ book of an immortals shelf. Or that’s what it seems to me. Not a mistake, but an absolute lead, help in the right direction. Ferria (if that’s who Ensem is) is helping mortals along the path less traveled.

ANIL

But the book was hidden in an immortal-magic hidden cubby. If we didn’t have Tengs specs we would have never found it. But she did leave a bunch of stuff just laying around to be found it would seem.

Exactly, ‘mundane’ things were left for thieves, and those in the know, woulda been tippped off from the hand written list to look for more. Average joe schmoes woulda been content with, I cant read it or don’t care what it says. We ain’t average joes though, are we? We be special!

Natane’s Bone Disk of Hardening

– So we all plan to use this? How many wishes will it take to get us into the right shape? I need Str boost only, but I need it from 12. Thats 93 wishes. Yikes. Who many Wishers do we have? Are we bringing Iustal in on this one? Would he be a help or hinderance? Efrim, Lakshmi, Alestria? is that all we got? I guess thats only 31 days. Holy shnikey! I was thnking it was like 4 months or something. What do other people need? Post the number of days here!

OKAY I peeked at your character sheets!

– Lakshmi = 35 wishes, assumes 16 Str / 18 Con (sterroids!)

– Al Bino = 101 wishes, assumes 16 Str / 14 Con

– Carrock = 146 wishes! 14 Str / 13 Con,

– Alestria = 86 wishes, 16 Str / 15 Con (Assuming this is most current version, with All previous Wish Club bonuses applied)

thats 461 wishes total divide by 3/day = 154 divide by 28 = 5.4 months.Updated the maths -Ensergeant 7/21/09 9:15 PMUpdated list with Alestria! -Efrim MacGregor 7/26/09 4:24 PM Voted – Al 7/27

Druida aint getting no Disk use? whats up with that? Actually its totally OK. I was thinking about this and it seems to me we really are looking at this from a MetaGame stance. If you found a semi-legit way to get a Masters Degree is Computer Science or Business that was free, would you not tell your spouses? Does that make any sense? In RP terms, it makes sense for Efrim to advocate for Druida, if not in game terms. If we find a Charisma enhancer, your going to have a fight on yer hands then! HA!-Efrim MacGregor 7/27/09 1:55 PM

Owl Questions:

Do the immortals consider this magic item forbidden as Radiance magics are?

Will using it bring retribution from the Immortals?

How do we make a Disk of Bone Hardening? I’m not sure about this one. I don’t think we should ask about it until after we get done using it. -Anil Seth 6/13/10 11:24 PM

How do immortals find the locations of people on the prime and other forbidden planes?

Do mortal magics (mind block, impasse etc) make any difference on this?

How often do immortals typically keep track of where there favorite people or enemies are?

Would possession of a magical item from Ebbensalma constitute a reason for the gods to send exalted creatures to the plane.Same with this one, although maybe a little less obvious. I believe the answer is yes. -Anil Seth 6/13/10 11:25 PM

Al’s Comments and Update

I don’t totally get how this document thing works…

I think we should use the Tome of Elish to Lore the plaque in the Tower in the Semu Empire that is stamped with DO NOT BLASPHEME! Does LORE tell you who made something? I think it would be crazy but possible if the gods that shut down the operation where some of the original 27. I think it makes total sense. The original 27 were in the rebel sphere, but some time after they “ascended” they became The Establishment, and wanted others that followed them to stop doing the same and they instituted the whole Quest BS, and established certain “approved” paths to immortality.

Al’s actions for after returning to the prime include acting cool, teaching Alchemistry to the party members that want to learn, and updating Vie with some of the new tricks that I have learned. My goal is to extend potion effects longer and longer and longer.
