Cloak of the Planemaster (Greater Artifact)

History/Mythology:
Created for Albino by the gods Pflarr and Ka and a gift for deeds rendered on the plane of the Azure Sky.
Description:

Shimmering black with blue understones, perfect fit for an elf, two loops at waist-level for attaching to a belt in windy environments.  Silver cords.

Current Owner:

  Albino
Powers:
  Power Points: 480

Recharging Rate: 20 TP per turn, 120 TP per hour.

1. Immortal Eye (110)

2. Furtive Gate (90)

3. Teleport Any Object (85)

4. Lore (70)

5. Survival (65)

6. Communication (Hear Supplicants) (40)

7. Invisibility 10′ Radius (20)

AC Bonus: -2

All powers similar to spells of the same description. Two exceptions:

Communication, Greater:
The user may concentrate on any one living or undead creature on the same plane. When concentration is attempted, that individual is instantly aware of desire for communication. The individual may accept or deny the contact. If accepted, the user and the individual may converse telepathically for up to one turn, regardless of their locations on the plane. If the target creature rejects the contact, the user is thereafter unable to make such contact with that individual for 24 hours.

Immortal Eye:

Range – up to five planes
Duration – 6 turns
Effect – creates movable invisible eye

When casting this spell, the owner names a specific site on a world where the owner has supporters (more on this later), within five planes of the owner’s current location. The owner cannot name a world where he or she has never been, or one where immortal or mortal magic does not work. Once the owner has named the specific site to cast the spell, an eye identical in function to the magic-user’s wizard eye appears there. The immortal eye can move, flying at a rate of 720′ a turn (240′ a round). The owner must concentrate on the eye without moving in order to control its movements. Any time he or she wishes, the owner can use us an immortal communication spell to project himself or herself into the dreams of sleeping mortals within 180′ of the eye. The immortal eye is not a crystal ball: the owner cannot name a person, an item or even a moving site when using this power. In other words, this power cannot be used to instantaneously find someone the owner is looking for. At the end of the duration, the owner can keep the power going by paying another 5 TP per turn.

Handicaps:
1.
Aging: owner ages at twice times the normal rate
2. Body part change: one of owner’s legs becomes green and lobster-like
3. Magic error: owner has a 10% chance of flubbing any verbally-activated spell
Penalties:
  1. Gaseous form
2. Fumbling – owner has a 50% chance of fumbling for the next 9 turns
3. Behavior change – owner becomes aggressively evangelistic for the next 24 hours
4. Hit points penalty – owner’s hit points drop by -2 hp per hit die
5. Invisible torture – owner and everyone within 20′ feels as though medium-sized nails are being pounded into their fingers, 1d10 points of damage and inability to concentrate or hold objects for two rounds

Coin of the Giants

History/Mythology:
According to legend, the Coin was first stored in the flying chariot of Xerxithir, King of the Sky. There are no historical records confirming the existence of Xerxithir, but the etymology of his name suggests that he might have been a storm or mountain giant. Whatever the origin of the Coin, it has become one of the better-known artifacts on the Prime plane, being best known for the wild, contorted faces of its 16′-tall golems (with tongues and mouths pulled around their ears and flared nostrils as much as nine inches wide) and the demonic belching sound its users make when breathing lava. The name of the Coin’s maker may have been lost in history, but his twisted imagination, it is said, survives in the Coin itself.

Egg of the Phoenix

History/Mythology:
This artifact is said to have been created by Mealiden as a part of his immortal quest, and has since become infamous for the giant explosion (1000 radius) created by the phoenix in preparation for building its own nest.

“Breaking the egg summons a phoenix from the elemental plane of fire. If the phoenix is summoned it does the will of the summoner for 3 days, and then immolates everything within 1000 feet and builds a nest from the ashes.  It then immolates itself and leaves a new egg in the ashes.  The egg, which is about the size of a kickball, bestows fire resistance 10′ radius and fly at all times, and the ability to throw three fireballs (6d6, 8d6, and 10d6) per day. Once any of its abilities has been used, it places the user under compulsion to always be in firelight and never touch pure water.”

He used it to great effect in her campaign to wipe out rather stiff resistance on Ochalea, and to unleash havoc once in an assault on Catalon. Head of Myth

History/Mythology:
Perhaps one of the most powerful artifacts known to mortal-kind, this artifact was actually assembled from three lesser artifacts, together constituting the two eyes and one stone head. No one knows for certain when it was first created, but it was famously stolen from an army of lizard men sometime between 1600 and 1300 BC and eventually thrown behind the walls of Iecca, where it was hoped that it would never be seen again. More recently the mortal polymath Myth, who was said to be the son of the Healer, acquired the head and used it for some time before vanishing from the face of the Prime.

Healer’s Hope (a.k.a. Maree’s Bane)

History/Mythology:
Once bestowed upon the legendary Mage-King Equus by the Healer, this staff became lost when its owner ascended from his mortal life. Artifactologists speculate that if the staff was originally given by the Healer to a mortal, then it is probably safe to assume that it was meant for mortal use, and has since been granted again to one of her devout. No one has made any credible claim to seeing it, however.

It is said that Kagyar found his work worthy of immortal fame and so imbued each lanthorne with artifact powers. The most famous of the hearts is called “Da’uud’s Lanthorne” after its first human owner, who stole the lanthrone from the dwarves and eventually perished when he was unable to sustain the necessary fuel for the lanthrone and accordingly perished. Horn of Cresseus

History/Mythology:
Cresseus was a Galadornian baron who in roughly 880 AC led an unsuccessful rebellion against a corrupt king. With his small territory surrounded by the kingÕs troops and his barony on the verge of collapse, he suddenly revealed to his people that he had long ago obtained a horn which was said to be capable of summoning an army of giant rocks and stones — an army created by Ordana as a way of providing the elven homeland (on which the human nation Galadorn now sits) with a final line of defense. Cresseus then walked out into the hills and blew the Horn, creating (witnesses say) an army of several hundred giant rocks. He commanded the army to smash the kingÕs troops and retake the capital, which they did, but not before tearing Cresseus apart and hiding the Horn. This story is astonishingly well-verified, as the original witnesses of these events included some demi-humans who are alive to this day. CresseusÕs actions helped to bring about the eventual overthrow of the king, and he continues to enjoy heroic status even among the lycanthropic denizens of modern day Galadorn.

When Vanya was slain by Maree and the Empire of Thaytis collapsed in 1014, Diomedes (now 49 years of age) fled from the Prime. To aid them in their defense, unnamed immortal patrons gave them three ballistae, which were designed to exploit the weaknesses of the vssgon and protect their users from the horror and despair it inflicts on those who look upon it. Woven Stone

History/Mythology:
Although little is known for certain about he woven stone, artifactologists speculate that it might originally have been the rather unremarkable sort of artifact that Nyx carried on her person as a kind of emergency device, meant to help her escape to her home plane when all other means were unavailable. If it was not carried by Nyx herself then it may very well have been kept by one of her titans or demons. Since falling into mortal hands, however, it has been used repeatedly to let loose the native denizens of Nyx’s plane upon the Prime. More recently it was taken by Efrim, Carrock and Mad Jack for the explicit purpose of destroying it — which was to be accomplished with one of the few items known to be capable of destroying the Stone (the Hammer of Life). For unclear reasons, however, they opted instead to offer it as a petition-gift to the ghost-god Pilgrim.
